Biography : Abraham's father, John Young, left the family farm in the Mohawk Valley in March 1977 to join the British, gaining a commission as a LT in the Indian Department. In August 1777, the Tryon County Committee of Safety ordered the apprehension of John's wife, Catherine, and she was confined along with her four children (Abraham was the oldest, age 11) in Johnstown, NY. They were probably sent to Canada in the winter of 1779/80. After the War, John settled with his family on the Grand River, among the Six Nations settlers. Abraham married Ellenor Dennis in 1790; her family was part of the Quaker Migration that left Pennsylvania after the War to settle in the Niagara region. Abraham and Ellenor had 11 children, and Abraham inherited a quarter of his father John's land when John died in 1811. Abraham fought in the 2nd Lincoln Militia during the War of 1812.
